A hybrid heat pump and central heating boiler
In the Netherlands, most homes are heated by a gas central heating boiler. However, with the increasing attention to sustainability and saving energy, more and more people are looking for alternatives to save gas. A smart alternative to this is the use of heat pumps.
There are different types of heat pumps that can take over some or even all of the tasks of a central heating boiler. For existing homes that are not yet optimally insulated, a hybrid heat pump is a useful choice. This heat pump works together with your central heating boiler, hence the term 'hybrid'.
One of the advantages of a hybrid heat pump is that you can always fall back on the boiler if the heat pump cannot heat enough. This ensures that you will never be left out in the cold. In addition, a hybrid heat pump can often be installed in one day, making it a fast and efficient solution.
Installing a hybrid heat pump in an existing home also has the advantage that you can immediately start saving on gas. The heat pump uses much less gas than a central heating boiler, which can significantly reduce your energy bill. Moreover, by using a heat pump you contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, which in turn contributes to a better environment.
However, it is important to mention that the efficiency of a hybrid heat pump depends on the insulation of your home. The better your home is insulated, the more efficiently the heat pump can work. It is therefore advisable to also invest in good insulation to get the most out of your hybrid heat pump.
In short, a hybrid heat pump is a smart alternative for heating your home and saving gas. It works together with your central heating boiler and ensures that you are never left out in the cold. Moreover, you can immediately start saving on gas and contribute to a better environment. Therefore, definitely consider installing a hybrid heat pump in your home.
This is how a hybrid heat pump works:
A hybrid heat pump is connected to your central heating boiler. The boiler remains responsible for heating the tap water. The hybrid heat pump heats the room temperature. This works as follows. The heat pump contains a refrigerant. This refrigerant heats up due to the energy in the indoor or outdoor air, causing the refrigerant to evaporate. Because the boiling point of this refrigerant is low, this evaporation can also take place with colder air. The vapor is compressed by a compressor. This creates an even warmer vapor. The heat from the vapor is transferred to the heating or boiler water in a heat exchanger. This causes the warm vapor to cool and become liquid again. This refrigerant is heated again and the process starts again. During longer periods of cold days, the central heating boiler may support the heat pump in heating the room.
